Device Overview
This is a brief overview of the types of portable devices available that lend themselves to education. Some may types may be described in more detail than others. This is not meant to be taken as a promotion of those devices. To learn more about a specific type of device click the headline.
Handheld computers are also known as Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), Palms, PocketPCs, Newtons, Smartphones, etc. For the purpose of this site, these devices will be generally referred to as Handheld Computers. Handhelds are more prevelant in classrooms then their counterparts (Media Players and Mobile Phones).
Music players, video players & portable game consoles are some of the most popular portable devices available today. With the release of the video iPod, media players are increasingly coming under fire within schools.
Booming demand for mobile phones with more features has led to the large number of students with this type of device. Increased content for mobile phones has pushed this device closer to it's hybrid of handheld computer and phone (i.e. - Smartphone).
